Time was when my primary music of preference was what is called Classic Rock in the US. Pink Floyd, Eagles, Clapton- the works. It has got to a stage where I can barely stand the Eagles and couldn't care less if I never heard Cocaine or Brick in the Wall again.
In some strange way it is Malayalam and to a lesser extent Tamil film songs that I like these days. (Strange because I never did much care for them when in school or college). Especially older Malayalam songs. Everyone in Kerala keeps talking about the golden age of Vayalar. So much so that old Malayalam songs are synonymous with Vayalar songs if you believe MG Sreekumar. All I can remember about Vayalar is that when he died all the papers ran articles on cirrhossis (man, that is a beast of a word to spell- worse than diarrhoea).
Joggy's page has a good selection of old Malayalam songs as does Binod Kumar's. At this point Binod's site is down, but I will leave the link in in case he fixes it
Another site for a goodish selection is Masoods'. This is part of Keralam.org.
My friend Sreenath Reddy has created a good site for Indian Music that has more variety than most music sites.
Needless to say it is becoming harder to find mp3 sites and I really don't have the energy to follow up the any number of bogus links that are out there. For a while coolgoose seemed to be the best place to go to but of late I find that downloads take for ever.
I think the site Tamil Beat is still active and has new Tamil songs but for Malayalam your best bet is going to be Raaga or MusicIndiaOnline and some good ripping s/w ;-)
